Elder Perry on Obedience

In a talk entitled "Obedience to the Law is Liberty" in the last General Conference Elder L. Tom Perry had many insights on obedience.  One of the following was this:

In a world where the moral compases of society is faltering, the restored gospel of Jesus Christ never wavers, nor should its stakes and wards, its families, or its individual members.  We must not pick and choco se which commandments we think are importante to jeep but acknowledge all of God's commandments.  We must stand firm and steadfast, having perfect confidence in the Lord's consistency and perfect trust in His promises. (Elder L. Tom Perry, "Obedience to Law is Liberty", April 2013 General Conference)

In this section of the talk, one thing than came to my mind was the concept of A La Carte Catholic, which describes a Catholic who picks and chooses the doctrines he wants to keep.  In This case, we cannot be a la Carte Mormons.  We need to obey all the commandments which are given to us.  We cannot expect to receive a temple recommend if we don't keep the Word of Wisdom, for example.
